2021 Foundation (Prep) Enrolment

Lockwood Primary School is currently accepting 2021 Foundation (Prep) enrolments for siblings of currently enrolled students, or if LPS is the closest Victorian Government Primary School to your family's residential address.

Enrolments are taken the year before the child is due to start school. The child must have turned 5 years by 30th April in the year they are to start school.

Please contact the school (5434 3224) if you are unsure or have queries about our enrolment requirements.

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au, which has the most current information about Victorian school zones for 2020 onwards.

Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.

The Department provides guidance through the School Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations.

You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones.

You are welcome to contact the school for an Enrolment Form and then return it with required documentation to lockwood.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

You are also welcome to submit the completed form and required documentation to the School Office during the hours of 10am to 2:30pm.

LPS will follow the Department of Education and Training’s Privacy Policy when collecting, storing or disposing of personal documents. Policy accessible here: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/Pages/schoolsprivacypolicy.aspx .

Once all documents and information have been collected LPS will confirm your child’s enrolment, as soon as possible.

Parents MUST supply the school with the following items for full enrolment:

  1. complete full Enrolment Form
  2. certified copy of your child's birth certificate or the original and the school can take a photocopy of it.
    • Birth Certificates can be ordered from the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages
  3. certified copy of your child's immunisation certificate or the original and the school can take a photocopy of it
    • Document issued by the Australian Childhood Immunistation Register on completion of their 4 year old vaccine

Due to current circumstances our Foundation Information session and school tours have been cancelled. We hope to be able to provide tours for prospective 2021 enrolments in Term 3.

Please see our video below for a virtual tour of our school

If you have any questions after viewing of the virtual tour and reading through the provided information please do not hesitate to contact the school. We look forward to meeting you in person.

COVID-19 means that transition arrangements will look very different this year. The following is from the current DET (Department of Education and Training) Operations Guide:

Small group kinder-to-school transition activities are permitted in schools in regional Victoria, such as parents, educators and children meeting a Prep teacher in a school environment. Group size should not exceed 10 people and no intermixing with other students at the school should occur.

With this in mind we have made the following arrangements. The Kindergarten children will be divided into three groups. There will be three short sessions for each group. Each group will attend for their designated time on each of the following dates. To maintain the numbers to 10 or less, only one parent/carer will be able to attend with each kinder child.

Details of which group your child will be in will be emailed prior to the first transition date.

The Sessions will be:

Session 1:        Wednesday November 18th

Session 2:        Wednesday November 25th

Session 3:        Wednesday December 2nd

On each of these days, each group will come for 30 minutes

9:10 – 9:40am

9:50 – 10:20am

10:30 – 11:00am

Group A

Group B

Group C

Session 1:        Wednesday November 18th

  • Students and their Parent/Carer will meet in the Library area. Miss Hannah will provide some play based activities and a short school tour. On this day students will be given a Social Story book that will introduce them to Lockwood Primary School and some of our routines. Please note, this year the school will provide all Foundation students with their school on their first transition session.

Session 2:        Wednesday November 25th

  • Students will go into the Library area. Parents/carers are welcome to stay at the school and have a cup of tea/coffee in the staffroom or drop your child off and return at pick up time. This is also a good opportunity to finalise your child’s enrolment if official documents are still required at school e.g. Birth or Immunisation Certificate.

Session 3:        Wednesday December 2nd

  • Students will go into the Library area. Parents/carers are welcome to stay at the school and have a cup of tea/coffee in the staff room. There will be an opportunity for a Q & A session for the parents at this time.

Statewide Orientation Day for Preps and other new students is on Tuesday December 8th. At this stage the Department of Education has not advised us of arrangements that we need to put in place for this day. As soon as we are made aware of arrangements we will let you know.

We have a brilliant two-year program in which Grade 5 students are allocated to an incoming Prep and support them as their "Buddy".
